The Courses

Each week is a self-contained intensive. Enroll in one or attend all three — each earns its own place in your portfolio.

Drawing, Painting: Chromatic Sequence
Week One
01

July 6–10, 2026  ·  Mon–Fri, 10AM–3PM

Drawing, Painting: Chromatic Sequence

Create compelling, portfolio-quality artworks using non-traditional drawing and painting techniques in an energetic hands-on making process.

Through readings, lectures, discussions, and critiques, this course introduces the concept and content of color as an expansive framework for artistic production.

Build technical skills by exploring a variety of wet and dry media that connect painterly gestures and drawing methods to multiple surfaces, including collage, assemblage, digital manipulation, gif animation, and performance. Investigate concepts of scale, composition, materiality, symbolism, context, and ideas of deconstruction and reconstruction.

Be inspired by the action paintings of Jackson Pollock, Donna Huanca, and Kazuo Shiraga of the Gutai group; the restraint drawings of Senga Nengudi, Matthew Barney, and Rebecca Horn; the sculptural paintings of Sam Gilliam, Jessica Stockholder, Abigail DeVille, and David Hammons; and the technology paintings/performances of Wafaa Bilal, Ranbir Kaleka, and SunYuan/PengYu.

Projects will be installed at the end of class in a final exhibition of student work.

Fade In: Stories Into Screenplays
Week Two
02

July 13–17, 2026  ·  Mon–Fri, 10AM–3PM

Fade In: Stories Into Screenplays

In this one-week intensive, writers ages 15–18 will learn some of the secrets of writing stories and how to adapt them into screenplays. Through writing exercises and reading (stories and screenplays), young writers will have daily practice in the art of storytelling.

Putting these into practice you will learn the value of using acts to structure your work and discover how to bring your own originality, humor, and point of view to bear on writing.

Whether you're into filmmaking, creative writing, or just love telling stories, this course will help you develop your voice, sharpen your ideas, and bring your imagination to the page—and to the screen.

Blow Up!: Inflatable Costume Art
Week Three
03

July 20–24, 2026  ·  Mon–Fri, 10AM–3PM

Blow Up!: Inflatable Costume Art

In this class students will create portfolio-worthy wearable inflatable art pieces that live between fashion, costume, puppetry, and painting. Using the body as an armature, students will be challenged to create unique wearable works that explore shape, silhouette, volume, color and texture.

By combining patternmaking techniques, sewing, and collage we will repurpose and make from whole cloth our own wearable and painted inflatables. Students will become familiar with machine sewing, hand sewing, patternmaking for garments, upcycling, garment hacking, and inflatable construction.

Artists and designers such as Walter Van Bierendonck, Nayland Blake, Momoyo Torimitsu, Yayoi Kusama, HARRI, Gareth Pugh, Claire Ashley, and Pat Oleszko will serve as inspiration for this course.
